The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI) was established in 1994, to honour the vision and memory of Dr Chang – a pioneering cardiothoracic surgeon and humanitarian whose life was taken in tragic circumstances a few years earlier.
The VCCRI conducts the highest quality research into cardiovascular disease, disease prevention, training cardiovascular researchers and doctors, along with the rapid transfer of new knowledge, treatments and diagnostics to the patient.

For the future of all Australians
Both nationally and internationally recognised for its world-leading heart research, the Victor Chang Institute runs 14 independent research programs across five divisions. Its researchers are steadfast in their commitment to solving the mysteries of what causes, and ideally, what can cure all types of heart muscle disease.
Heart disease does not discriminate
Sadly, heart disease is Australia’s Number 1 killer of men and women, both old and young. Alarmingly, women are four times more likely to die of coronary heart disease compared to breast cancer. And the leading cause of death in children under 5 is also heart disease.
Pause for a moment and reflect upon these figures. Then consider the importance of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. It is the future of Australia.
How the Sisterhood helps
